Recycling Beverage Containers

New Brunswick Department of Environment and Local Government
Ensures effective enforcement of, and compliance with, environmental legislation and regulations, such as the New Brunswick Beverage Containers Program.

Beverage Containers Program
Established in 1992 in response to the New Brunswick Beverage Containers Act. It aims to reduce the amount of waste going into landfills and keeping litter off roadways by encouraging the public to return empty beverage containers for recycling in a network of local redemption centres. It is regulated by the New Brunswick Department of Environment and Local Government (DELG).

Beverage Containers Act
The New Brunswick Beverage Containers Act establishes requirements for beverage product distributors and redemption centres regarding the distribution, collection and refilling or recycling of beverage containers.

Encorp Atlantic
Re-Centre is a pilot project initiated and led by Encorp Atlantic Inc.
Encorp represents non-alcoholic beverage product distributors and is responsible for processing and recycling all non-alcoholic deposit-bearing beverage containers received by redemption centres in the province.

Alcool NB Liquor
Alcool NB Liquor is a Provincial Crown Corporation responsible for the purchase, importation, distribution, and retail activity for all alcoholic beverages in New Brunswick. It is thus also responsible for processing and recycling/reusing all alcoholic beverage containers received by redemption centres in the province.

Eastern Recyclers Association
Non-profit industry association with two divisions – one in Nova Scotia and one in New Brunswick. In New Brunswick, its members are independent small businesses that operate redemption centres under the authority of the New Brunswick Department of Environment.
